Kurashiki : The node of River and Sea
[ The regional understanding in Kurashiki, Okayama prefecture ]
In Japan, a mountainous country with few plains, logistics during the Edo period (17th–19th century; Tokugawa Shogun Era) primarily relied on water transportation.
Kurashiki served as a key logistics base situated at the hub of water transportation in this region.
Takase-bune (small boats) transported goods from the Takahashi River area to Kurashiki, where they were transferred to Sengoku-bune (large ships) for further transportation to the commercial city of Osaka (heading in the right direction along the Seto Inland Sea).
